Morning Care
Monday - Friday
7:30am - 8:30am
Our Morning Childcare program provides a calm and welcoming start to the day for students. Designed to ease children into their morning, this time allows for quiet, self-directed activities in a relaxed setting.

Students may choose from a variety of options such as coloring, reading books, playing with toys or games, or simply enjoying quiet social time with friends. Staff are present to supervise and engage with children as needed, creating a safe and supportive environment before the school day begins.
Afternoon Care
Monday - Friday
Bell Ring - 5:30pm
Our Afternoon Childcare program offers a more structured environment to help students unwind and recharge after the school day.

The afternoon begins with a snack, followed by dedicated time for homework or quiet academic activities, providing support and encouragement as needed. Once work is completed, students can enjoy supervised free play—indoors or outdoors—allowing them to socialize, be creative, and burn off energy in a safe and engaging setting. Our goal is to balance structure with fun, creating a positive end to each child’s day.​
Closures
In the event that West Hartford Public Schools (WHPS) announce an early dismissal or cancel all afternoon activities due to severe weather, WLEDC will be closed.
Parents and guardians are responsible for monitoring weather conditions and staying updated on any school schedule changes. WHPS makes decisions regarding delays, early dismissals, and cancellations with safety as the priority, including allowing time for parking lot clearing and ensuring safe travel.

We ask that all families support the safety of both WLEDC and Whiting Lane School staff by picking up children promptly at dismissal. If WHPS has a delayed opening, WLEDC will follow the same delay. If WHPS initiates an early dismissal due to weather, power issues, or other emergencies—or cancels after-school or evening activities—WLEDC will be closed.
If WHPS is closed for the full day, WLEDC will also be closed.

Program closures will be announced on NBC CT. Families will also receive an email notification from the Director, and text alerts are available through the NBC CT website.

Enrollment for returning families begins March 1st.
Enrollement for new families begins April 1st.

It is Whiting Lane Extended Day Care’s mission to provide a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally beyond the school day. Through engaging activities, homework support, and creative play - we aim to nourish each child’s curiosity, confidence, and sense of community.
